Portrayal = betrayal, so dance with me

Reflecting on the practice of Ida Brottmann I want to scream a little bit. A little bit but quite loudly. She is pushing my buttons. I try to wonder about the concept of the gaze through the ages, the ages of Western Art History, the generations of (mostly white) women who were represented as SILENT OBJECTS OF beauty with downcast eyes. DOWN-CAST EYES, girls when it could be grrrrlz, the inflection of girls! girls! girls! never far away as a totally valid way to choose to use your empowered female body

One and two and three waves of white western feminism hit me like a late-May rainstorm. There is an international school next door where I am getting my girls, says the artist, it is really high security.

I am incoherent. I try to wonder about her innovative forms, the non-event performances, still life lives, and non-narratives

But there is also the PROM. ARRRRRRRRGHRHGHGHGHGHGHGGGHhhhhhhhhhhh the prommmmmmmm. I feel swWEATY.
